Unisource customers in Ontario with less than 15 employees, who have traditionally avoided FSC certification for cost and organizational reasons, now have the opportunity to become FSC certified. OPIA has untaken the development of the first North American FSC certification program for small printers with the support and guidance they need to become chain of custody compliant with considerable savings. With this new partnership, Unisource customers are now entitled to a further cost savings. Tracey Preston, President of the OPIA, is pleased to welcome Unisource customers to OPIA's group certification program. “The small group certification program is a welcomed opportunity for members of the printing industry who where previously restricted in becoming FSC certified.”
Unisource Canada has been a long-standing member of the OPIA and certified with the FSC since 2004. Stéphane Dagenais, National Marketing Manager at Unisource Canada says, “Our customers have a need to be competitive in an industry that demands change. With the help of the FSC group certification they can now quote and compete for print jobs that were once closed to them,” furthermore, they can do it knowing that they are helping the environment by joining a certified and world renown chain of custody program.”
Unisource Canada has elected to promote and support the OPIA-managed FSC group certification program. This shows a strong shift from traditional “paper industry” thinking and true leadership within the industry. Both organizations have been working towards better, industry wide, environmental practices. “It was only a matter of time before a program of this significance was established.” Say Dagenais. “We’ve taken a great step forward by supporting the OPIA’s FSC Group Certification program to eliminate any reason for a printer not to be chain of custody certified. We’re happy to be the one to help our customers through the transition.”
